Dollar Store Frame Makeover and Some Kid-Friendly Line Art

Making a dollar store item look glam - does it get any better?

I promise you; no one would know these little frames cost so a few dollars. Plus, any way to make your child’s art look chic is a win-win. And if you don’t have a kid, here’s your oppurtunity to draw like one. Go ahead, no one will judge you. LOL

Start with these simple black frames found at the Dollar Tree for you guessed it - one whole dollar! They even have glass panes and stand-off mattes inside.

I’m using lamp supply parts to give these simple frames a touch of luxe. I ordered these brass swinging loops here, but I know for SURE you can find them cheaper at your local lamp supply store. I gave in and bought these online when all the stores were closed. Now that some stores are opening back up in our area, I will definitely be looking to support them and save myself some money the next time I make these! Mother’s day gifts anyone??!

Next you’ll want to use a ruler or measuring tape to mark the center at the top of your frame.

Use a power drill with a bit to accommodate your screws size. If you don’t have a drill, you could probably just strong arm it into the frame by hand - the wood is pretty soft.

Now you should have a perfectly centered hole for your brass piece.

Screw that sucker in and you’re gravy!

I love how this simple step totally elevates a cheap frame. It feels so polished.

Now to fill it! Of course, you can use photos or whatever you want at this point. I was looking for some black and white art for the living room, so that’s what got this whole idea going.

Here’s what I did: See if you can follow me here because it’s super complex; give your child a sharpie and some paper. Are you still with me? LOL ;)

Seriously, this is the best. I adore kid art. I asked my almost 4 year old to do whatever she wanted - there’s no way to mess is up!

After they are finished, you can trim the paper to fit your frame.

And now you have some very chic art that doesn’t look like it was birthed from quarantine desperation. Or does it? Hahaha!

This was just what I needed in this little space! I’m so excited to reveal the rest of the living room with you on Friday!

Please let me know if you make or plan to make this in the comments! I would love to see!
