Front Porch Before and After Part 2

Since we have been spending so much time at home this Summer, I’ve started considering every unused space as an extra opportunity .

This area can hardly be considered a “front porch” before. It was probably better described as a landing for firewood and shoes LOL

It was just sad.

But it had so much potential. I felt inspired by the little bit of space that was out here.

Outdoor living areas have always been a favorite of mine as a designer. I love the idea of mixing the indoor comforts with the natural world.

After

The first thing I did was purchase a log holder. We actually have a lot of fires during the colder months so this will get a lot of use and almost feels like a “railing” where there wasn’t one.

If you remember from my front door reveal, this storm door got a major makeover. I originally painted the trellis pink, and loved it, but since I brought so much more color and pattern to the rest of the space, I decided to paint it black.

Now, the entry feels so modern and classic.

I purchased this Jasmine plant online here. I was skeptical about ordering a plant online, but I must say, the shipping process was very efficient and it arrived mess-free!

I love the smell of the blooms that fill the air as you walk through the front door.

There wasn’t much defining this space in terms of architecture, so I decided to highlight this wall with faux boxwood to make the space feel more intentional. I love the impact it has!

This bamboo sieve was found at an estate sale. Its so huge and just barely fits this wall, but I think it was meant to be…

I have purchased so many plants this year and have been really disappointed with their longevity once I got them home. This fire dragon plant has not let me down so far though! It is so vibrant and easy to care for.

This fiberglass loveseat almost made me wreck when I saw it in the parking lot of a local thrift shop! I snagged it for $25. With a fresh coat of spray paint and DIY upholstered cushion (using outdoor fabric), it’s perfect for this space!

Would you believe this latch hook pillow is even weather resistant?!

Rugs seem unusual for an outdoor space, especially a front porch, but let me tell you, it’s been so nice coming out here for a morning cup of coffee without shoes!

Did you know that polypropylene rugs can be used outdoors? Yep! This rug gets wet when it rains and drys super fast. Because it is a synthetic material, there’s no worry for mold or mildew. I can sweep or vacuum it easily. To fill this space, I used two 2x5’ rugs.

I love how the racing stripes on the cushion play off the rug….

This garden table added a welcomed, warm metallic texture to the space, and serves as a place to hold my morning cup of tea or afternoon cocktail.

Keeping the key elements of this space neutral means I can easily swap out the plants seasonally and they will always POP against the graphic, black and white stripes!

What spaces are you currently not utilizing? I’d love to work with you on seeing it’s potential!

Until next time…
