SPRING 2021 ONE ROOM CHALLENGE - EDWARDIAN MODERN BEDROOM WEEK 2

It’s week two of the One Room Challenge!

In case you missed it last week, I am making over a room in 8 weeks, and the theme is Edwardian Modern. This week, the walls have been painted in a beautiful, soft pink and I’ve been feasting my eyes on some really pretty details that are starting to take shape in the vanity area.

(I’m going to be a little bit of a tease over the next few weeks so there is some element of surprise on reveal day. I promise, it will be worth it!)

I mean…how gorgeous is this antique portrait against the wall color?? That emerald green…swoon.

The painting will be hung over this secretary desk which I will be using as a make-up vanity. Still not quite sure where the mirror will be installed, but I am adding that to my to-do list. The main thing is it will function beautifully for me because I am a bit of a slob when it comes to toiletries so having a door to close will allow me to keep some of my dignity in tact on rushed mornings…

To balance these reeeeally old pieces, I’m book-ending them with some modern. I think the juxtaposition is really interesting, and so unexpected.

This wall sconce from Modern Lantern just arrived and I am all heart-eyes for this guy. Why? Let me make a list because I can’t summarize my feelings in one sentence:

  • It’s cordless. Hallelujah! No hard-wiring necessary. Renters, can I get an amen? The battery is rechargeable so it’s super easy, and energy efficient to use.

  • There is a bulb on the top and bottom. I think this is such a cool art light for this reason; it keeps the focus on what’s below, but also casts some light above.

  • It can rotate, allowing you to decide which way to direct the shades (large shade on bottom or top).

  • It’s dimmable which makes it great for a bedroom - hello mood lighting!

  • Style. ‘Nough said.

You are also getting a peek at the rug here. Who said beige couldn’t be cool?

I got sweaty palms when I saw this lucite bench at an antique shop here in Johnson City. The price was out of my budget, but I managed to talk the dealer into giving me a deal. SO WORTH IT I WILL LIVE WITHOUT SNACKS OR SOMETHING FOR A WHOLE WEEK I PROMISE AMEN.

So now I can say I have two items circa 1910, something brand new and something from the 70s all in one vignette. Man, I love designing like this! It just takes a little bit of patience and flexibility. Had I ran out to a store to try to get everything at once, the result would have been no where near this cool.

But you haven’t seen it all together yet, so I’ll let you wait to make that judgement LOL

One last look at that bench and these beige-y pink walls (sans bamboo shades), ready to be filled…

Now, enough rambling, time to get back to it!

To-do

  1. Paint

  2. Finalize ceiling light: I am deciding between two on opposite ends of modern/traditional so they could really change the entire look of the room. This is a big decision. Follow along in my instagram stories to weigh in!

  3. Order pillows from Motif Pillows

  4. Design roman shades and have them custom-made. This might take awhile so I need to hop to it.

  5. Source a stool for the secretary desk I’m converting to a vanity. Something modern to balance it.

  6. Order sconce from Modern Lantern

  7. Make shades for sconces on either side of bed.

  8. Convert a bar-stool into a bedside table

  9. Purchase accessories. I’ll be modernizing the look of some vintage pieces.

  10. DIY wall treatment above bed

  11. Order fabric for upholstery

  12. Order bed

  13. Modernize some vintage sculptural art for the wall

  14. Figure out mirror situation for vanity desk.
