This week, I took on an additional project I wasn’t planning. After refinishing the Kallax shelving unit, I realized I needed some drawers for this room to hold small items. Not having room for an extra piece of furniture, I was thrilled to find Drawer inserts for this unit! And my dear husband was even willing to make the trip to Ikea without me to retrieve them!

They functioned, and fit perfectly, but I knew after my husband installed with drawer pulls, that this wasn’t going to work for me. I asked him not to bother installing any more of the knobs. Upon contemplating what to do, I realized that even swapping out the knobs wasn’t really going to excite me.

So I got to work filling in the existing knobs holes with wall putty.

And then primed and painted them to match my wall color. I didn’t sand them this time, like I did with the shelves, so I’m curious to see if that’s a decision I’ll regret later. I did however select the flat white factory finish for these drawers, rather than the gloss, so I think I already had a good base to work with. We will see how it holds up…

I then added new holes for these amazing, powder coated half-moon handles, and bingo! Now I’m excited! It was not hard to drill into the laminate coated mdf, but it did require some time to ensure the holes were lined up properly.

I really wanted my daughter to have a portion of this room to use as a playroom when I’m not doing office work. These drawers are the perfect size for legos, paper dolls and other small items.

How to refinish ikea furniture

This week, we plan to install this gorgeous wallpaper by Cordonne, from Wallpaper Direct. It looks so good with the Clare paint wall color.

Paint walls and trim
Install ceiling wallpaper
Refinish rattan desk (it can’t be sanded obviously so hoping a fresh coat of stain will do the trick)
Find some kind of upholstered dining chair to use with desk
Finalize space plan
Finalize art selection

Organize cubbies for toys
Organize closet for design samples
Install light fixture
Source accessories
Paint shelves
Install roman shades
